Effect of Window Area and Proportions of Iwan on Daylight in Adjacent Room: An Investigation in Yazd City

Yazd is located in a hot-dry region with harsh weather conditions. Houses an iwan were suitable for establishing comfort conditions the past. An evaluation of visual residential courtyard buildings city was carried out by investigating effects depth and ratio adjacent rooms' openings. Research currently being conducted on optimal model effort to facilitate sustainable development increase use such contemporary housing. The effect parameters investigated simulating models containing different proportions sizes window Design Builder software. results indicate that proportion Window Wall Ratio room's significantly affects daylight penetrates into rooms. For purposes this study, climate-based metrics (CBDMs), as Useful Daylight Illuminances (UDI) thresholds 100–3000 lux Spatial Autonomy (sDA) over 300 lux. In 1.5 above, windows from 20% 60% WWR have ability bring amount light room. This means using iwan, wider can be designed without having glare adding extra thermal load building. Results obtained research will provide new insight concepts iwan. Furthermore, findings help architect design spaces utilization daylight.
